Camels come up short on the final day of Marucci Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. - Campbell falls short to NC State 5-2, in the last game of the Marucci Classic. 

In the first inning, Tristin Doster hit an RBI single that brought in Lindsay Lumsden and she scored the first run of the game for Campbell. NC State quickly answered when Ellie Goins hit a fly out and Amanda Hasler scored. 

In the second inning, Hannah Goodwin reached on a fielder's choice and Tori Ensley scored, unearned. The Camels answered back in the fifth inning when Tyra Parker grounded out to shortstop and Allyiah Swiney scored. 

NC State answered in the fifth inning scoring two runs, and the final run of the game was a home run by Taylor Ensley in the sixth inning. The Camels fell to NC State 5-2. 

Rylee Wyman (3-1) was credited with the win, allowing one hit, no runs and four strikeouts. 

Hannah Leierer (0-3) was credited with the loss after allowing seven hits, two earned runs and two strikeouts. 

Overall

Coach Prater on the weekend, "I'm proud of us, we continue to fight… It's about defense. If we could clean up the defense and execute our bunts and manufacture some runs, we're going to be good. That's really what it comes down to, error free defense, continuing to communicate, all those little things. These are lessons that we are learning and moving forward. It's about the home tournament coming up this week and defending our home turf." 

Up Next

The Camel Stampede will be hosted at home Feb 23-25. The Camels start off the weekend playing Incarnate Word on Friday at 3:00 PM and then Saint Joseph's at 5:30 PM Friday.
