Camels top Incarnate Word and Winthrop, Leierer throws perfect game

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Hannah Leierer's perfect game highlighted the Camels 2-0 opening day at the Camel Stampede. 
 
Game One – Campbell tops Incarnate Word, 5-4

In the first inning Sterling Hairston singled down the left field line, bringing in Makayla McClain and Charlie Montgomery. Allyiah Swiney hit a double to left field, bringing in Hairston to give the Camels three runs. 

Incarnate Word answered in the fifth inning when Jillian Gutierrez hit a home run to left field, bringing in Dariane Cram. Britaney Shaw hit a double to right center in the sixth inning, which brought in Dominique Guerra and tied the game. In the eighth inning, Ryleigh Mata singled down the right field line bringing in Victoria Altamirano. 

The Camels answered in the bottom of the eighth inning when Alyssa Henault hit a sac fly and McClain scored. Tyra Parker then hit a walk-off that brought in Swiney. 

Larissa Jacquez (1-1) was credited with the loss, pitching 0.1 innings and allowing one hit and no strikeouts. 

Isabella Smith (2-3) was credited with the win, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing five hits, one earned run and seven strikeouts. 
 
Game Two – Camels dominate Winthrop, 3-0

Hannah Leierer (1-3) was credited with a win after throwing a perfect game against Winthrop on day one of the Camel Stampede. Leierer allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and ten strikeouts. 

In the sixth inning Tristin Doster doubled down the left field line to put the Camels on the board by bringing in Montgomery. Swiney then tripled through the right side, bringing in Gillespie and Doster.

Megan Powell (3-2) was credited with the loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing five hits, three runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.

The Camels will face Saint Joseph's at 3:30 PM and Incarnate Word at 6:00 PM on Saturday, Feb. 24, for day two of the Camel Stampede.
