Campbell beats Winthrop in final game of the Camel Stampede

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell tops Winthrop 4-3, in the last game of the Camel Stampede. 

Winthrop started off hot in the second inning when KaDedra Temple hit a home run to left field, bringing in Peyton Rivas and Emma Jackson. Winthrop led the game 3-0 until the sixth inning when Campbell answered back offensively. 

In the sixth inning Tristin Doster singled up the middle and then advanced to second on the throw, bringing in Alyssa Henault. Lindsay Lumsden then hit a sac fly to right field that brought in Charlie Montgomery. 

In the seventh inning Henault got walked with bases loaded, and that brought in Allyiah Swiney to tie the game. Montgomery then advanced on a fielding error to bring Makayla McClain home for the game winning run. 

Reese Basinger (4-4) was credited with the loss after allowing seven hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts. 

Isabella Smith (4-3) was credited with the win after allowing eight hits, no earned runs and 11 strikeouts. 

Up Next

The Camels will return home on Tuesday, Feb. 27 to play Michigan State at 4:00 PM. The game will also be streamed on FloSports.
