Camels top Rider 4-3 on first day of UNC Mizuno Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Campbell won against Rider 4-3 on the first day of the UNC Mizuno Invitational. 

In the second inning Kristyn Gardner grounded out to shortstop, bringing in Kendall Reda-Fehsal for Rider's first run of the game. 

The Camels answered in the fifth inning when Makayla McClain hit a triple and then scored on a throwing error made by second base. Allyiah Swiney then came home on an error made by left field. 

Rider tied the game in the sixth inning when Kristyn Gardner hit a home run to left field. In the bottom of the sixth inning Swiney hit a double to right center, bringing in Madilyn Gillespie and Makayla McClain, and bringing the score to 4-2. Rider scored their third and final run of the game in the seventh inning when Jadeyn Merrill singled to left field, bringing in Amanda Cooper. 

Fallyn Stoeckel (0-3) was charged with the loss after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing seven hits, three earned runs and three strikeouts. 

Isabella Smith (5-3) was credited with the win after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing eight hits, two earned runs and 10 strikeouts.
