The Camels top Rutgers on day two of the UNC Mizuno Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Megan Gregory pitched and got her first career win against Power Five Rutgers in a 3-2 extra-inning win. 

In the third inning Katie Wingert hit an RBI single to left field bringing in LA Matthews and giving Rutgers their first run. In the fifth inning Makayla McClain hit an RBI single up the middle bringing in Allyiah Swiney and tying the game. 

The game went into eight innings since both teams were tied with one run. In the top of the eighth Morgan Smith reached on a fielder's choice and Kyleigh Sand scored, giving Rutgers their second and final run of the game. 

In the bottom of the eighth Swiney ended the game by reaching on an error, bringing in Madilyn Gillespie and Lindsay Lumsden. 

Mattie Boyd (7-3) was charged with the loss after pitching 7.2 innings and allowing five hits, one earned run and eight strikeouts. 

Megan Gregory (1-3) was credited with the win after pitching 8.0 innings and allowing eight hits, one earned run and three strikeouts.

The Camels will take on Lafayette at 11:30 am and North Carolina at 4:30 pm on Sunday, March 3 for the last day of the UNC Mizuno Invitational.
