Camels bounce back with 19-11 win over Manhattan

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Ally Heath scored five goals, Bridget Ahlgren tallied four and Campbell earned a 19-10 wire-to-wire win over Manhattan Monday night at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell improves to 3-4 overall on the season while the Jaspers fall to 3-4 after dropping their second straight.

The Camels opened the game with a four straight goals from four different scorers. Campbell led by as many as six in the second quarter before Manhattan answered by netting four of the next five goals. Heath gave Campbell an 11-7 lead before the break after scoring off a bounce assist from Shania Roehrich.

Natalie Mellen shined in her first start between the posts for the Camels, allowing just one goal in the third quarter and none consecutively in the second half. Mellen finished with 11 saves including two at the end of the third quarter.

Samantha Fratto netted her first career goal off a free position while senior Katie Ochall scored her first career as a defender as CU took a 19-10 lead, its largest of the evening, with less than 30 seconds to go.

In total 11 different players scored goals in Campbell's highest scoring output of the season.

The Jaspers were led by Ava Fernandes who scored four goals and Reagan Mullins who added three. Ashley Gambardella took the loss in goal for Manhattan after surrendering 15 scores before being replaced at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Camels finished 16-of-16 on clears and had a 17-14 advantage on draws and 31-27 edge on shots.

Campbell returns to Barker-Lane on Saturday we it opens CAA play against Hofstra at noon.
