WASHINGTON, D.C. - Top-seeded Stony Brook held off Campbell in a 61-52 win Friday in the CAA Championship quarterfinal at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
Conference regular season champions Stony Brook (26-3) advance to the CAA semifinals for the first time in program history as eighth-seeded Campbell finishes its season 17-14 overall.
Shy Tuelle led the way for the Camels, leading all scorers with 16 points. Tuelle recorded her 300th career three-pointer playing in her 151st and final collegiate game. Christabel Ezumah totaled nine points, seven boards and three blocks while Gemma Nunez finished with seven points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Stony Brook led wire-to-wire as CAA Player of the Year Gigi Gonzalez led a balanced scoring effort with 13 points while Janay Brantley and Victoria Keenan had nine points each off the bench. Â Seven players scored at least five points for Stony Brook, including 27 off the bench.
The Seawolves led 20-10 after the first period and extended their lead to 36-20 at the half. Stony Brook, who led by as many as 18 in the second half, saw its lead trimmed down to six thanks to a 13-3 run by the Camels in the fourth to make it 58-52. The Seawolves made three free throws over the final 18 seconds to hold on for the win.
Stony Brook, who boasts the league's best offense averaging 74.4 points per game, shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field and made 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three. Campbell finished shooting 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field and went 24.1 percent (7-of-29) from behind the arc.
Campbell held a 9-5 advantage on second chance points but were outscored 26-24 in the paint, 13-8 off turnovers and 18-9 on breaks.
