Camels top Lafayette, fall to North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Campbell beat Lafayette 5-1 and fell to North Carolina 6-0 on the last day of the UNC Mizuno Invitational. 
 
Game One – Campbell tops Lafayette, 5-1


Lafayette got their first and only run in the second inning when Paige Sandidge hit an RBI double to right center, bringing in Olivia Catalina. 

In the third inning Alyssa Henault hit an RBI single that brought in Allyiah Swiney. Henault then stole second and advanced to third on an error, bringing in Charlie Montgomery. The Camels kept it up in the fourth inning when Montgomery reached on an error, bringing in Tyra Parker. Montgomery then advanced to second and third on an error that also brought in Swiney. For the fifth and final run of the game, Henault hit an RBI single to shortstop that brought in Montgomery. 

Jacqueline Cal (1-4) was credited with the loss after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing eight hits, and one earned runs and one strikeout. 

Kayla Howald (1-0) was credited with the win after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing six hits and one earned run. Katherine Serna also pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed no hits, no runs and three strikeouts. 
 
Game Two – Camels fall to North Carolina, 6-0 

The Tarheels started out hot with three runs in the first inning from a sac fly, RBI groundout to first and an RBI single. In the fourth inning Autumn Owen hit a home run down the left field line to bring the score to 4-0. Sanaa Thompson then hit a double, bringing in Carsyn Snead. In the fifth inning Owen hit an RBI single bringing in Destiny Middleton, and that was the last run of the game. 

Nikki Harris (4-1) was credited with the win after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing two hits, no runs and three strikeouts. 

Isabella Smith (5-4) was credited with the loss after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing six hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts. Katherine Serna was also in the circle for 2.0 innings and allowed one hit, one earned run and one strikeout.

The Camels will travel to New York to play Fordham on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:00 pm, then Stony Brook on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for their first conference matchups.
