Camels sweep doubleheader at Stony Brook to open CAA play

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Campbell beat Stony Brook 3-0 in game one and 6-4 in game two for their first games in the CAA conference. 
 
Game One

Sterling Hairston hit an RBI single then advanced on an error in the second inning, and that brought in Tristin Doster. Charlie Montgomery then advanced on an error and Allyiah Swiney scored. In the third inning Makayla McClain hit her first home run of the season, giving the Camels their third and final run. 

Gabrielle Maday (4-3) was charged with the loss after pitching 2.0 innings and allowing six hits, one earned run and one strikeout. 

Isabella Smith (6-4) was credited with the win after pitching 7.0 innings and totaling two hits, no runs and 11 strikeouts. 
 
Game Two 

The Camels started out hot in the first inning when Brooke Carey hit a two RBI single up the middle, bringing in Lindsay Lumsden and Savannah White. Stony Brook quickly answered in the second inning when Emily Reinstein hit a home run to left field. 

In the top of the third Lumsden hit a home run to left field. In the bottom of the third Kyra McFarland scored on a wild pitch, then Catherine Kupinski hit a home run that brought in Alicia Orosco and brought the score to 4-3. 

In the fifth inning Carey hit a double down the left field line and then advanced to third on an error and Lumsden advanced home to tie the game. Tyra Parker then hit an RBI single that brought in Carey. For the final run of the game, McClain hit her second home run of the day and that brought the score to 6-4. 

Ashton Melaas (2-2) was charged with the loss after pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 10 hits, five earned runs and four strikeouts. 

Kayla Howald (2-0) was credited with the win after pitching 2.0 innings and allowing two hits, no runs and two strikeouts. Smith was credited with the save after coming in and pitching 2.0 innings and allowing no hits, no runs and seven strikeouts. Freshmen Megan Gregory and Hannah Leierer also saw time in the circle. Gregory started the game and pitched 1.2 innings and allowed three hits and one earned run, and Leierer pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one hit, one earned run and one strikeout.
