BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell catcher and relief pitcher Grant Knipp has been named one of 45 amateur baseball players on USA Baseball's 2024 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, the group announced Thursday afternoon.
A redshirt junior from Louisville, Ky., Knipp is the lone representative on the list from the CAA. He is one of 27 on the midseason list that were not included on the preseason watchlist. He is only the third Campbell player since 2012 to be on the midseason list (Ryan Thompson 2014, Thomas Harrington 2022).
Knipp, who has missed the past six games due to a hamstring injury, led the nation in home runs and RBI through his first 22 games of the season. He is still number one in the country in home runs per game, RBI per game and slugging percentage (1.156).
The preseason All-CAA member, Knipp was recently named the Midseason Breakout Star and first-team Midseason All-American by D1Baseball.
Knipp has also made a mark coming out of the bullpen for the Camels this season. He's recorded two saves in four appearances on the year. He has a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings of work with six strikeouts and just one earned run.
