Campbell falls in season finale to William & Mary

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell baseball fell to William & Mary in the final game of the regular season, 11-3, Saturday evening at Jim Perry Stadium.

The Camels end their season at 31-22 and 12-15 in CAA play.

Saturday's game was Senior Day for the Camels, as they celebrated seven players and one manager in their final game for the team.

William & Mary (30-24, 13-14 CAA) locked up a spot in the conference tournament with the win. They scored one run in the first with an RBI double from Anthony Greco.

Campbell scored two runs in the bottom of the opening frame, as the first three batters were hit by pitches. Dalen Thompson reached on a fielder's choice to the shortstop to score one run, and Braeden O'Shaughnessy hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the second run.

The Tribe scored three runs in the second to take the lead again. Campbell answered with another run of their own when Thompson drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Neither team scored in the third or fourth innings, until William & Mary broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. Greco tripled to bring home a run, then Trey Christman hit a bases-clearing double and Josiah Seguin hit an RBI single.

With one out in the top of the sixth inning, lightning in the area forced a weather delay that lasted 1:40 before the game was resumed.

After the delay, Nate Goranson hit a two-run home run to left field for the final runs of the game. The Camel offense was unable to force the issue in the later innings, only drawing three walks after the weather delay.
