WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Fighting Camels fell to the UNCW Seahawks for the second straight night, 7-4, at Brooks Field.
The Camels (27-18, 8-12 CAA) recorded only seven hits on the night, while the Seahawks (31-16, 16-4 CAA) put runs on the board in three of their final four innings. Â
The game started with two miscues in the bottom of the first. Aiden Evans reached and advanced to second on an error by the Campbell infield. Evans advanced to third on a wild pitch and tried to score on the same play. He was tagged out at the plate, and the Camels avoided any danger in the first frame.
Campbell opened the scoring in the second inning with two home runs. Dylan Koontz led off the inning with a solo home run to right field. The long ball was Campbell's 101st home run this season. This is the third consecutive season the Camels have surpassed the century mark.
Later, Chandler Riley drew a two-out walk, and Braeden O'Shaughnessy laced his first pitch out to left for a two-run homer.
UNCW scored once in the bottom of the third with an RBI single up the middle by Evans, scoring Kevin Jones on third base. Jones advanced a base on a passed ball earlier in the inning, so his run was unearned.
Both teams put their first two batters on in the fourth inning, then had their next three batters record outs without moving the runners past second base.
Zach Sabers got the start for the Camels. He went 4.1 innings, allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts and six walks. Five other pitchers saw action out of the bullpen.
The Camels added one more in the fifth inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs, and a sacrifice fly from Dalen Thompson scored Reed Stallman.
UNCW took the lead, 5-4, in the fifth inning with four runs on zero hits. The Campbell pitching staff combined for five walks, and the Seahawks also scored on two wild pitches and a groundout to first base.
Neither team scored in the sixth, but the Seahawks added another in the seventh with a solo home run from Trevor Marsh. They lead, 6-4, entering the eighth inning.
Campbell loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth but couldn't bring any runs across. Through the first eight innings, the Campbell offense left nine runners on base.
UNCW added one more in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Tanner Thach.
Lawson Harrill drew a walk in the top of the ninth, but no more baserunners were added for the Camels, as Luke Craig recorded four outs for his second save in the series.
