Matey, Grek both promoted to assistant coach

BUIES CREEK - Emmanuel Matey and Kevin Grek have both been promoted to assistant coaches, head coach Kevin McGeehan announced Wednesday.

Matey served his first season with the program last season as Director of Basketball Operations. In his role, the Greenbelt, Md. native coordinated the team's internal schedule, executed drills in practice, conducted team and individual film and skill development sessions, and orchestrated in-game defensive matchups and defensive schemes.

"Emmanuel has had a major impact on our program in just one year," head coach Kevin McGeehan said. "He has an infectious enthusiasm combined with great knowledge and understanding of the game. He will do great things for Campbell Basketball."

Matey previously served as a GA at VCU and is a 2017 graduate of Gannon University and earned his master's in 2023 at VCU.

Grek worked as Campbell's Director of Player Development from 2019-21, and then returned in the same role last season ahead of this promotion. Grek coordinated and organized internal operations including travel, budget, alumni engagement and fundraising. He also handled practice planning and individual workout sessions and tracked gameplay statistics and trends to suggest in-game adjustments.

"Kevin has been incredible in his role and is ready to move up and take on even more responsibility in the program," McGeehan said. "He has great relationships with players, parents, alumni and on campus. I am excited to add more on-court work for him."

Grek previously made stops as an assistant coach at Bridgewater College and JV head coach at Jordan High School in Durham. He is a 2017 graduate of Kean University.
