Stony Brook holds off Camels 24-17

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Roland Dempster rushed for 179 yards and two first half scores, pushing Stony Brook past Campbell 24-17 in CAA action Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Seawolves (3-1, 1-0 CAA) rushed for 227 yards and three touchdowns, topping Campbell (1-3, 0-2 CAA) in its 2024 home opener.

Dempter punched in touchdowns on Stony Brook's first two drives, marching 75 yards on 11 plays, including 36 yards from the redshirt senior running back on its opening drive. The Seawolves then capitalized on a Campbell fumble on the ensuing kickoff, with Dempter running in another TD.

Johnny Martin's one-yard TD run made it 21-0 for Stony Brook with 10:10 to go in the second quarter before Campbell answered with an eight-play scoring drive, capped by Mike Chandler II's five-yard TD pass to Aiden Valdez, the first of sophomore's career.

Valdez added another score on Campbell's opening drive of the second half, a 37-yard scamper off Chad Mascoe, Jr.'s toss over the middle, cutting the Stony Brook lead to 21-14.

The teams traded late fourth quarter field goals, including Connor Lytton's 30-yarder for CU with 31 seconds remaining. Stony Brook then recovered the following on-side kick to close out the game.

Dempter rushed 36 times for 179 yards and two scores for the Seawolves, while Malachi Marshall completed 13-of-30 passes for 157 yards. Defensively, Jordan Jackson posted six stops, while A.J. Roberts tallied a sack with four total tackles.
