Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Camels give up first half goal, fall on the road to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Campbell women's soccer fell to Charlotte, 1-0, Thursday night at Transamerica Field to stretch their winless streak to four matches.

The Camels (1-3-3) were outpaced in shots on goal, 9-1, by the 49ers (1-5-1), who secured their first win of the season.

Charlotte controlled the pace for much of the first half, limiting Campbell to just two shots while racking up eight for themselves, six of which were on frame. The 49ers were aided by 10 first-half fouls by the Camels.

A dangerous chance came in the 19th minute, as a 49er attacker went down in the box after a collision, but no foul was called on the field which would have resulted in a penalty kick. After a video review, there was not enough evidence to overturn the call.

The 49ers broke through in the 35th minute off a free kick by Macey Bader. Her ball into the box found her target who put a shot on goal, and JLo Varada blocked it but was unable to control the ball as it came off her hands.

The ball found its way to Evie Craven, who put another shot on goal that was blocked. Her rebound fell directly to Allie Metcalf, who fired it into the back of the net to give Charlotte their first lead of the 2024 season.

Charlotte continued applying the pressure in the second half. In the 72nd minute, Annabelle Walker put a shot of the left post, and Emily Ford put the rebound back onto frame. Varada was able to get down just in time for a kick save to keep the score 1-0.

Campbell's offense continued to want on the offensive side, recording just two more shots in the first 30 minutes of the second half with neither being on goal.

Caitlyn Boucher was the provider for Campbell's lone shot on goal in the contest, doing so in the 80th minute.

Varada once again showed her mettle in the 85th minute with another diving save on a shot sent in from outside the box. She ended the match with eight saves in her first start this year after playing the second half against Clemson.
