Berglund T4, Hahne T9 on individual leader board

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Mira Berglund is tied for fourth individually and Campbell is second in the team standings after Sunday's opening round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

UNC Wilmington sits atop the leader board at 282 on the par-71 Mike Strantz design, while Campbell and New Mexico State finished Sunday's play at one-over 285.

Emma Bunch of New Mexico State leads the 94-golfer field after shooting a 5-under par 66 in the opening round.  UNCW's Victoria Levy and Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang of Charlotte are tied for second at minus-two 69, while Berglund is among a group of five golfers at one-under 70.

Campbell junior Isabella Hahne is tied for ninth at even-par 71, while freshman Fanni Gronlund and sophomore Alicia Olsson are T22 at one-over.  Red-shirt junior Izabella Grimbrandt finished the day at 5-over 76 and is tied for 52nd.

Berglund's day included four birdies and three bogeys.  She played the par-5 holes at 2-under, tied for fourth in the field.  As a team, the Camels led the 18-team event Sunday with 64 pars.  Gronlund made 15 pars and Hahne 14.

The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.  Since 2012, the Camels have won six team titles (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2021, 2022) and finished as runner-up twice at Caledonia.

This year's 18-team Golfweek Fall Challenge field includes defending champion UNC Wilmington, plus two schools coached by former Campbell assistants.  Charlotte's head coach Ryan Ashburn (2014-15) and assistant coach C.C. Buford McMahan (2017-19) both served under Campbell head coach John Crooks, as did High Point head coach Lyndsey Hunnell (2019-22).

The Course – Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (Par 71, 6526 yards): Caledonia was ranked No.-27 in in Golf Magazine's 2014 "Top 100 You Can Play" and is annually ranked on "America's 100 Greatest Public courses" list by Golf Digest.  The 6,526-yard Mike Strantz design has been described as having "18 signature holes," with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th hole borders the Plantation's old rice field, and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green at the foot of the clubhouse.
