BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Former Campbell player and coach Janice Washington was announced as the head coach of the Greensboro Groove, a founding member of the Upshot League. A new professional women's basketball league, the Upshot League will begin play in May 2026.

A standout performer on the court, Washington ended her career as Campbell's leader in games played with 119 career games, starting 114 of those. She was a member of the 2000 Atlantic Sun Championship team, scoring 996 points, and ranking third in school history for total steals and assists. Washington's 15 assists against Samford in 2000 set an NCAA season high for assists in a game that year. She finished her career as one of the top five leaders in total assists (572) and ranked tenth in total steals (256), with a career free throw percentage of 78%. Washington was selected to the All-Conference Newcomer Team and named Second Team All-Conference during her playing career at Campbell.

Washington spent nine seasons across two stints as an assistant coach at Campbell. During her time as a coach in Buies Creek, she developed post and perimeter players, managed scouting and film exchange and assisted with recruiting.

Washington spent the past four seasons as the head coach at Lincoln University (PA). There, she led the Lions to back-to-back CIAA North Division titles and their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. She was awarded the Division II NSMA Clarence "Big House" Gaines College Basketball Coach of the Year award after her first season at Lincoln, going 22-8 and winning the school's first-ever CIAA Tournament title.

From 2016-21, Washington served as the Head Coach at Daytona State, where she coached, among others, 25 All Mid-Florida Conference Selections, 1 Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year, 7 All State/Region VIII Selections, 1 NJCAA All-American, and 5 Academic All-Americans.

Between her two stints at Campbell, Washington spent the 2012-13 season leading Lackawanna College, a Division II junior college in Scranton, PA, and the 2010-11 season coaching at Vicenza High School in Italy, where her team improved from a 1-22 record to 17-3, earning the program's first European Championship (US equivalent to a state championship).

Washington has also worked in various U.S. Army locations, including Fort Sill, OK, Vicenza, Italy, Alexandria, VA, and Scranton, PA, from 2008 to 2011. She served as the Advertising and Commercial Sponsorship Program Coordinator and earned the Department of the Army Achievement Medal for her service at Fort Belvoir.

She received her MBA from Campbell University in 2004 and earned her BBA in Trust Management and Financial Planning in 2001.
