BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After turning in a season-best third-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate,
Erik Johansson of Campbell University has been named Coastal Athletic Association men's golfer of the week.
A junior from Hollviken, Sweden, Johansson (72-70-69—211, -2) was one of only four players in the 87-golfer field to finish in red numbers on the par-71 Furman University Golf Course. He helped lead the Camels to their best team showing – a runner-up effort – in the event at 3-over par (285-281-289—855).
Johansson ranked T3rd in the 87-golfer field in birdies (12) and par-5 scoring (-5). He logged his fifth and sixth rounds of par, or better, golf this season and produced his second top-10 finish of the season.
Campbell, which finished third at its previous tournament – the Bash in the Boro - led the 15-team field at Furman with 55 birdies, tied for second in par-3 (3.12) and par-5 (-12) scoring and was third on the par-4 holes (4.13).
The 2024 CAA rookie of the year, Johansson lowered his stroke average to a team-leading 71.9. His third-place finish at Furman marked his sixth top-10 result in 27 collegiate tournaments. He has played par, or better, golf in 33 of 78 career rounds with 14 rounds in the 60s.
Campbell concludes its fall schedule next week (Oct. 27-28) with the FAU Invitational at Panther National Golf Club in Palm Beach Harbor, Fla.
