Camels fall in regular season finale

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Bryan Miralrio scored two goals for the Seahawks, as The Fighting Camels fell to UNCW, 2-1, in the regular season finale Wednesday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The contest was a continuation of the previous matchup on September 6 that was postponed due to inclement weather. The teams began the night by finishing the final 16 minutes of the first half before resuming as normal.

Miralrio's goals each put UNCW ahead, opening the scoring in the 52nd minute before notching the game-winner in the 83rd minute. He scored each goal after Campbell was unable to clear the danger from the six-yard box.

Evans Dapaah tied the game in the 71st minute on a brilliant volley from outside the box. Lilian Fichelle sent a free kick into the box, and UNCW mustered only a half-clearance because of a challenge from Jake Roberts. Dapaah came in and connected with his right foot just outside the 18-yard box and fired the ball into the top right corner.

Seven yellow cards were shown, all in the second half. UNCW was shown three and Campbell four. Each team was called for 16 fouls.

The result locked UNCW into the final playoff spot in the CAA South Division, along with Campbell and Elon. UNCW faces Charleston and Elon takes on William & Mary this Saturday, and the results of those matches will determine the seeding. Campbell still sits in first place with 14 points, while Elon and UNCW each have 12.
