Campbell falls to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte 49ers used an 11-0 run over the final 5:34 of the game to defeat Campbell, 61-50, Thursday night at Halton Arena.
 
Campbell (0-2), which trailed by as much as 13 in the second half, tied the game at 50 with a layup from Hadleigh Dill with 6:38 to go in the fourth quarter, but the 49ers' (1-1) defense tightened up and closed the game strong.
 
Charlotte was led by Princess Anderson, who scored a career-high 26 points along with five steals. Tanajah Hayes added nine points, while Asianae Nicholson led the team with nine rebounds.
 
Ciara Alexander led the Camels with 16 points and nine rebounds while hitting all six of her free throw attempts. Olivia Tucker contributed 11 points and six rebounds and hitting three three-pointers.
 
The Niners, who never trailed, jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter. Campbell cut into the deficit by winning the second quarter, 17-13, then hit five threes in the third quarter to bring it back within striking distance.
 
CU opened the fourth quarter with a 12-4 run to tie the game. The Camels went cold on the offensive side of the ball after the run, ending the contest 0-for-6 with four turnovers in the final six minutes.
 
Charlotte controlled the glass, outrebounding Campbell 57-33. That in turn led to a 21-11 advantage on second-chance points for the 49ers, who were just 22-for-71 shooting the ball on the night.
