Camels drop CAA opener at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, NY – The shorthanded Camels dropped the CAA opener 86-72 at Hofstra Monday night on Long Island.

Campbell drops to 6-8, 0-1 on the year, while Hofstra moves to 10-4, 1-0 in the league.

Jeremiah Johnson paced the Camels with a 25-point outing, going for 27 and 25 in each of his last two games. Dovydas Butka logged his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and a team-high four assists.

A 25-6 Hofstra run saw Campbell go from up three to down 16. The Camels worked back into it with a run of their own to cut the lead to eight before Hofstra caught fire to end the half. The Pride hit threes on each of their last three possessions to see the halftime margin balloon to 18 points at 49-31.

Hofstra shot 7-12 from beyond the arc in the first half and 65% from the floor, while Campbell shot just 36% from the floor and 18% (3-16) from distance.

Campbell's performance improved in the second half, and won the half 41-37, but could never draw within true striking distance. Johnson scored 14 of his 25 in the second half.

Hofstra was led by Cruz Davis's 22 points, pacing four players in double figures, while adding seven assists. The Pride finished 11-24 from three-point range.

Campbell was beat 42-27 on the glass, CU's largest rebounding deficit of the season. The Camels turned it over a season-best seven times while forcing 14.

Campbell returns to action Wednesday night at Monmouth for more CAA action. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve, with the game broadcast on FloCollege.
