BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Sam Bischoff scored five goals and Rasa Welsh added three goals and three assists to lead Campbell past Charlotte 14-8 on a cold and rainy night at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Bischoff and Welsh scored four of the first five goals for the Camels (1-0) who jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Freshmen Josie Parrett and Paige White picked up their first collegiate goals while Lexi Goff added two goals.
Helen Bartman made her first career start in goal for the Camels and finished with nine saves. Charlotte (1-1), who opened its inaugural season with a 20-2 win over Gardner-Webb last Saturday, were shutout in the first quarter and were held to just two goals in both the second and third periods.Â
Claire Schotta led Charlotte with four goals while Avery Olsen and Kylie Gioia found the back of the net twice each.
Campbell held a 35-33 edge in shots, including 22-17 in shots on goal. The 49ers held a 14-12 advantage on the draw.
Welsh, who set a Campbell single-season record with 90 points in 2023, missed all of last season with an injury. Bischoff, a two-time Big South Midfielder of the Year, missed all but one game last season after suffering an injury in the season opener. Both combined to score or assist on 11 of CU's 14 goals.Â
Campbell returns to action back at Barker-Lane Stadium on Saturday as it hosts former Big South rival High Point at 1 PM.
