BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Old Dominion held Campbell to just two goals total in the second half, earning an 11-8 victory over the Camels Saturday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Alex Kulinski scored four goals while Sarah Murrell added three for the Monarchs who improved to 4-1 this season. Rasa Welsh and Delaney Nicolaus each scored twice for the Camels who drop to 1-2 overall.
Old Dominion opened the game with goals from both Kulinski and Murrell in the first four minutes of action. Campbell responded by rattling off five straight goals, including two from Welsh, through the end of the first quarter and the opening of the second quarter. ODU answered by scoring four of the next five goals to even the game at 6-6 at halftime.
Campbell took a 7-6 lead as Bridget Ahlgren assisted on a goal by freshman Josie Parrett at the beginning of the third period. The Monarchs answered by scoring three of its next four off of free positions, earning their largest lead of the day at 10-7 with 8:40 left in the game.
The Camels cut it to a two-goal game as Welsh found Nicolaus for a goal but ODU put the game out of reach on Kulinski's fourth and final goal of the game with 1:58 remaining.
CU outshot Old Dominion 27-20 and forced 24 turnovers but the Monarchs won the draw controls on the day 17-6, including 7-2 in the second half.Â
Campbell finished 1-of-7 on free position attempts while the Monarchs converted 5-of-8.Â
Welsh finished with two assists while both Ahlgren and Lexi Goff added one goal and assist each. Sam Bischoff, who was held without a point for the first time this season, finished with four draw controls, two ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers.Â
Murrell tallied a game-high seven draw controls and added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.Â
Brynn Bowen improved to 4-1 in the goal for the the Monarchs after making 12 saves. Helen Bartman made five saves in the nets for the Camels.
Campbell finished 18-of-20 on clears and picked up six penalties overall to just one for Old Dominion.
The Camels return to action back at Barker-Lane Stadium on Wednesday against Wofford at 6 PM.Â
