RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina State topped visiting Campbell in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader at Dail Softball Stadium. The Wolfpack claimed game one 7-1 before defeating the Camels 12-4 in five innings in the nightcap.
The Wolfpack, winners of seven straight, improved to 12-5 on the year, handing Campbell (9-7) a pair of losses in its 2025 midweek debut.
In game one, NC State plated runs in four of the first five innings, including a one out, two-run single from Ellie Goins in the fifth.
Alyssa Armijo brought home a run for Campbell in the fourth with an RBI fielder's choice, scoring
Allyiah Swiney, who reached on a leadoff single.
Wynne Gore (2-1) earned the win, working 3.2 shutout innings of relief, striking out five while allowing a pair of hits, while starter Rylee Wyman tossed 3.1 innings, with a run on five hits, two strikeouts and a walk.
Megan Gregory (1-1) was charged with the loss for CU, scattering three runs, two earned, on six hits with a strikeout and two walks in 2.1 frames.
Goins went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Wolfpack, including the two-run single in the fifth, while Taylor Ensley also drove in a pair. Tori Ensley scored twice, going 2-for-4, while Hannah Goodwin went 2-for-2 with two runs.
Swiney and
Charlie Montgomery both went 2-for-4 for Campbell.
In game two, NC State posted a nine-run second inning to power past the Camels, including Hannah Church's grand slam, followed by a solo homer from Michele Tarpey, sending 13 to the plate in the stanza.
Campbell cut into the Wolfpack lead with a four-run top of the fourth, including a two-out, two-run single from
Alyssa Armijo, but an RBI fielder's choice from Ensley and a bases loaded walk in the home half of the fifth gave NC State an eight-run cushion to end the game.
Nine in the Wolfpack order picked up hits in game two, with Teagan Thrunk going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Tyra Parker, meanwhile, went 2-for-3 for the Camels with a run.
Carly Maxton (4-1) earned the five-inning complete game win, allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Emily Damerson (3-1) suffered her first loss of the season, allowing five runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk as one of four Campbell pitchers to see time in the circle in the game.
Next up, Campbell returns to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium, hosting North Carolina Central in a three-game weekend set starting Friday, February 28 at 5:00 p.m. The teams will wrap up the series with Saturday's noon doubleheader before Campbell begins CAA play with UNCW in Buies Creek on March 7.
