Camels down ETSU in five innings

BUIES CREEK - The Camels picked up their fourth straight win with a 13-4 victory in five innings over ETSU Sunday afternoon. Campbell scored in all five innings  of the game and collected 11 hits on the day.

The win moves Campbell to 4-1 after the opening weekend, while ETSU drops to 1-4.

After allowing ETSU to scratch two across in the top of the first, Campbell responded in a big way and batted around in the home half to score four runs. A pair of singles started the rally before Swiney, Cornetto, Slutzah, and Davis all provided an RBI.

The Camels loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning, but settled for only one run in the frame to maintain a two-run advantage.

Campbell pulled away in the fourth inning by posting the first zero on the board in the top half before scoring three in the bottom. Cadan Brinkman singled to center field with the bases loaded, and the ball skipped past the outfielder to the wall to bring home three runs and put the Camels up 9-4.

CU polished the game off early with another four-spot in the fifth. Cornetto doubled home a run, Desena singled one home, and Ford delivered the final blow with a two-run double off the wall in left to end it 13-4.

Four Camels collected multi-hit games, as Montgomery,  Desena, Davis, and Brinkman all had two apiece. Brinkman led the way with three RBI on the afternoon.

Megan Gregory earned the victory, throwing two innings in relief allowing just one run. ETSU's Eden Muncy was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs in 0.2 innings in the start.

Campbell returns to action Friday at home against Lafayette to kick off the Camel Invitational.
