BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Bella Goodwin scored five goals to lead No. 13 Duke past Campbell 14-6 Monday afternoon in front of a crowd of 1,808 middle school students on Education Day at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell (2-5) trailed 3-1 after the first quarter before the Blue Devils, ranked No. 13 in the latest IWLCA national rankings, scored six in the second period to take a 9-3 lead into halftime. Duke outscored Campbell 5-3 in a hard-fought second half.Â
Goodwin recorded a hat trick with three goals and an assist in the first half and added two more goals in the second half for the Blue Devils. Callie Hem added three goals and an assist while Carly Bernstein finished with two goals and two helpers.Â
Both Bridget Ahlgren and Sam Bischoff scored two goals for the Camels while Joslin Hanbury added one goal and an assist.Â
Duke held a 30-27 edge in shots, 23-18 in shots on goal, and won the draws 13-11. Campbell went 17-for-18 on clears while the Blue Devils finished 17-of-20.Â
Campbell returns to action at Towson on Saturday for its CAA opener.Â
