Camels roll by Charleston 80-59, advance to CAA title game

Campbell seeks first conference tournament title since 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In just its second season as a conference member, Campbell is headed to the CAA final!

Third-seeded Campbell (21-11) knocked down a season-high 14 three-pointers and cruised by second-seeded Charleston (24-7) 80-59 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Credit Union 1 CAA Championship at CareFirst arena.

Campbell will meet ninth-seeded William & Mary in the CAA title game Sunday at 2 PM. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. 

The Camels shot 50.0 percent (14-of-28) from three, posted a season-high 56 rebounds and held the top offense in the CAA to just 26.5 percent (18-of-68) shooting overall.

Jasmine Felton led five Camels in double-figures with 16 points along with posting a career-high 12 rebounds and six assists. Ciara Alexander recorded her second career double-double scoring 12 points and hauling in a career-high 14 boards. Both Hadleigh Dill and Courtney Dahlquist finished with 12 points off of four three-pointers. Gianni Boone rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. 

Campbell jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. The Cougars, who defeated Campbell by 21 (75-54) nine days prior, cut the deficit to 27-25 midway through the second quarter before the Camels ended the first half on a 10-0 run.

After halftime the Camels opened the third quarter with a 15-4 to extend its lead to 50-29. Dahlquist, Dill and Audrey Fuller all drained corner treys in the third quarter to push Campbell's lead to 64-40.

Boone gave the Camels its largest lead of the day (79-49) after making a pair of free throws with 3:01 to go in the fourth. 

Gemma Nunez finished one point and two assists away from a triple-double, totaling nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. 

CAA Player of the Year Taryn Barbot led all scorers with 26 points for Charleston who its nine-game win streak snapped.

Campbell seeks its first conference tournament title since claiming the ASUN title in 2000.
