Camels hold on for 11-10 win over Monmouth

Campbell earns first CAA victory of the season

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell outscored Monmouth 7-0 in the second quarter and held on for an 11-10 win Thursday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Rasa Welsh scored the eventual game-winner for Campbell (3-6, 1-1) on an assist from Joslin Hanbury with 7:07 to go in the fourth quarter. Monmouth (3-7, 0-2) had a chance to tie with less than a minute to go before Carson Shoop caused a turnover with 14 seconds remaining.

Sam Bischoff scored three of her four goals in the first half while McKenna Duncan added three goals and one assist to lead the Camels who picked up their first CAA win of the season.

After trailing 4-1 through the first period, Campbell put together one of its most impressive quarters of play this season by outscoring Monmouth 7-0 and taking an 8-4 lead into halftime. 

Monmouth stormed back, scoring five straight to retake the lead before a goal from Duncan with 1:21 to go in the third quarter knotted things up. The Camels went back ahead on Bischoff's fourth goal of the game in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Monmouth tied it up on Shea Berigan goal with 8:19 left before Welsh netted the go-ahead goal a little over a minute later.

Josie Parrett scored two goals while Hanbury finished with two assists for the Camels. 

Danielle McNeely led the Hawks with three goals, Maddie Flynn added two goals and one assist while Berigan scored twice. 

The Camels held a 33-25 edge in shots, 24-20 in shots on goal and won the draws 15-10. Monmouth forced 19 turnovers and went 21-for-21 on clears

Campbell returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Drexel at noon.
