Camels finish as runner-up at City of Oaks

Berglund finishes T3, one shot off individual lead

RALEIGH, N.C. – Mira Berglund finished one shot off the individual lead and No. 48 Campbell claimed runner-up honors in the team standings after Saturday's final round of the City of Oaks Collegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Only East Carolina (291-296-299—886) finished ahead of the Camels (306-297-300—903), who were eight shots better than host and 41st-ranked NC State (312-299-300—911) in the 17-team field.

Campbell, which won the Golfweek Fall Challenge, recorded its fourth runner-up finish in eight tournaments this season and has not lost (2-0-1 head-to-head) to a power conference school on its home course.  In the season-opening Tiger Classic, Campbell finished second, five strokes ahead of Clemson, and tied for 2nd with host Tennessee at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate.  CU also finished second last fall at The Southern.

The Camels completed the 54-hole event 10 strokes in front of fourth place Charlotte (921).  Campbell also finished ahead Big Ten member Rutgers, Boston College of the ACC and Georgetown from the Big East.

No golfer in the 95-player field finished in red numbers.  East Carolina's Danielle Modder (75-69-74—218) shared medalist honors with Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang (75-70-73—218) of Charlotte at two-over par.  Berglund (70-73-76—219) tied for third with Georgia Ruffolo of Georgetown and claimed her fourth top-10 this season in eight starts.

Alicia Olsson (77-73-76—150) and Fanni Gronlund (79-71-76—150) tied for 11th place, while Jade Potter recorded a career-best finish (T22) after posting a collegiate low 72 in the Saturday's final round.  Potter (80-80-72—232) made the turn at 4-over but had four birdies over her final nine holes. Taylah Ellems tied for 48th (82-81-77—240).

As a team, the Camels led the field in par-3 scoring (3.13), while finishing second in birdies (32), par 4 (4.31) and par 5 (5.26) scoring.  Berglund led the field with 12 birdies, was third on the par-5 holes (-1) and fourth in par-3 scoring (E).  Olsson tied for first in par-3 scoring (-1) and was third with 34 pars, while Potter was seventh on the par-4 layouts (+3).

Campbell continues its spring season Mar. 28-30 in the Chattanooga Classic hosted by UT Chattanooga at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

Several areas of the course provide views of downtown Raleigh as well as the NC State campus.  The course features three types of character - flat, wetlands, and trees – and includes eight par four holes, five par five layouts and five par three holes.  Campbell most recently competed in the 2023 NCAA Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole and in the 2015 NCAA Raleigh Regional, advanced to the NCAA Championship from the site.
