Camels open play in Chattanooga

No. 46 Campbell one of five top-50 teams in field

OOLTEWAH, TENN. – No. 46 Campbell opened play Friday in the Chattanooga Classic at The Honors Course.  One of five schools ranked among the country's top 50 in the 15-team field, No. 46 Campbell is 14th after 18 holes.
 
After a day when none of the 15 teams finished at par, or better, No. 10 North Carolina stands at 6-over, one stroke better than Wisconsin.  Campbell stands at 313 strokes entering Saturday's second round, two shots behind Michigan.
 
Only five golfers completed the day in red numbers, led by Anna Canado Espinal of Duke, who shot and opening round 68 and holds a one-stroke edge over Chantal El Chaib of Georgia.
 
Campbell sophomore Alicia Olsson is tied for 34th in the 90-golfer at 5-over par (77).  Mira Berglund and Izabella Grimbrandt are T45 (78), while Isabella Hahne is T66 (80) and Fanni Gronlund T86 (85).  Competing as an individual, Jade Potter is T77 after an opening round 82.
 
The Chattanooga Classic is being held on a Pete Dye design that hosted the 1991 US Amateur Championship as well as the 1996 and 2010 NCAA Division I men's championship and most recently the 2024 US Senior Amateur.
 
The 54-hole event runs through Sunday on the par-72, 6180-yard layout.  Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.
