BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell won its first CAA game of the season against UNCW 5-4, with the last four runs being scored in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Camels improved to 13-7 (1-0 CAA) for the year, and the Seahawks are now 14-7 (0-1 CAA).
Hannah Cornetto hit an RBI single in the first inning to put the Camels on the board. The Seahawks scored two runs in the second inning after Lauryn Richardson hit an RBI single and Addie Yates hit an RBI bunt. They scored two more runs in the third inning after Maggie Pertee and Ava Tsiouplis both hit RBI singles.
The score stayed 4-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Alyssa Armijo drew a walk with two outs and bases loaded, scoring Emma Slutzah who reached base after hitting a single to right field with two outs. Janel Day drew an RBI walk, scoring Madison Ford who also reached base on a walk. Directly after the walk, Livie Davis stole home and Armijo stole third, then also scored.
Makayla Huddleston (7-3) was credited with the loss after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing six hits, five earned runs, six walks and five strikeouts.
Emily Dameron (5-1) was credited with the win after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing seven hits, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
