JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. –
Mira Berglund is tied for 12th individually and Campbell is tied for 10th on the team leader board after Sunday's opening round of the Briar's Creek Invitational at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
The event was originally scheduled for 54 holes over Monday and Tuesday, but the first round was moved to Sunday and the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to heavy rain forecast for Monday. The final round is set for Tuesday on the Rees Jones design.
No. 6 Florida State posted an 8-under-par 280 Sunday and leads the 17-team field. Kent State (289) is tied while No. 39 NC State and No. 37 Purdue are tied for third. No. 49 Campbell is one of five top-50 ranked schools in the event and is tied with Iowa at 9-over 297.
Berglund fired a one-under-par 71 on a day when she made 15 pars and two birdies. Her lone bogey came on the par-3 fourth, her 18th hole of the day. Berglund was one of only 16 golfers in the 99-player field to finish the day in red numbers on the 6152-yard layout.
Alicia Olsson is tied for 20th at one-over 73, while
Taylah Ellems is T47 (76),
Isabella Hahne T61 (77) and
Fanni Gronlund T65 (78) through 18 holes.
Isabella Goyette of Kent State tops the individual leaderboard at 6-under-par 66, one stroke ahead of FSU teammates Mirabel Ting and Lottie Woad.
