Campbell tops Hampton in double-header

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell topped Hampton in five innings in both games today. Tyra Parker reached 100 career stolen bases during the second game, making her only the second player in Campbell Softball history to do so. 

The Camels improved to 29-11 (14-3 CAA) for the year, and the Pirates are now 12-24 (4-14 CAA).

Game One

The Camels scored two runs in the second inning after Alyssa Armijo, who reached base on a walk, scored on an error by the catcher. Allyiah Swiney also drew a walk and then scored after Tyra Parker hit an RBI sacrifice fly. The Camels exploded in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs in the inning. Haley Krebs, Madison Ford, Hannah Cornetto, Amber DeSena, Charlie Montgomery and Emma Slutzah all hit RBI singles. Krebs scored on a wild pitch, and DeSena scored on a passed ball. Devin Davis drew a walk that scored Armijo, who reached base on a walk, and Janel Day hit an RBI sacrifice fly that brought in Swiney.

The Pirates earned their two hits in the second inning after Leah Maduro singled to the pitcher, and then Cassidy Lee singled to shortstop. No runs scored.

Angelina Branch (6-8) was credited with the loss after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing four hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Jada Evans also pitched to eight batters and allowed six hits, six earned runs, two walks and no strikeouts.

Hannah Leierer (7-3) picked up the win for the Camels after pitching 3.0 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Katherine Serna also pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. 

Game Two

Parker hit a single to the shortstop to reach base in the first inning, and then went home after Cornetto hit an RBI single to third. Montgomery then reached on a fielder's choice and Cornetto scored. In the second inning, Parker hit a two RBI triple to left center, scoring Krebs and Slutzah. Parker scored after Ford hit an RBI single up the middle. 

In the third inning, Krebs hit an RBI single that scored Cadan Brinkman, who pinch ran for Armijo after she was hit by the pitch. Parker then reached on a fielder's choice that brought in Swiney, who reached base after singling up the middle. Krebs scored on a passed ball, and then Parker scored after the catcher dropped the ball on the third strike and threw it to first, getting Ford out, but Parker safe at home. Cornetto singled up the middle and then went home after Brinkman got hit by the pitch with bases loaded. 

The Pirates scored their only run of the day in the fifth inning after Kylie Hill hit an RBI groundout, scoring Aitirhna Aiken who reached base after hitting a single to left field.
