BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell swept the weekend CAA series against Hampton, winning the third game 7-3.
The Camels improved to 30-11 (15-3 CAA) for the year, and the Pirates are now 12-25 (4-15 CAA).
Carmynn Bonner hit a solo home run in the first inning to put the Pirates on the board and give them their first lead of the weekend. The Pirates scored two runs in the second inning after Amani Johnson and Kylee Quinn both hit RBI singles.
Cadan Brinkman gave the Camels their first hit of the game in the third inning after hitting a double to center field. Brinkman scored after Tyra Parker hit an RBI double to left center. The Camels scored three runs in the fourth inning and took the lead for the first time in the game. Hannah Cornetto hit a solo home run over center field to start off the inning. Allyiah Swiney then hit an RBI double, scoring Amber DeSena who reached base on a walk. Swiney scored after Emma Slutzah hit an RBI sacrifice fly that brought Swiney home.
The Camels scored 3 runs in the sixth inning as well. Slutzah started it off by hitting another RBI sacrifice fly that scored Charlie Montgomery, who reached base after hitting a single to shortstop. Cadan Brinkman followed up with a two RBI home run down the left field line, scoring Swiney who reached base after hitting a single to shortstop.
Angelina Branch (6-8) was credited with the loss after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing nine hits, seven earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts.
Emily Dameron (7-1) picked up the win for the Camels after pitching 5.2 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, and two strikeouts. Cassiti Baroni also pitched for 1.1 innings and allowed six hits, three runs, one walk and one strikeout.
