Camels finish 3rd at CAA Championship

4 Campbell golfers among top 13 individuals

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Mira Berglund finished third and Campbell placed third on the team leader board after Sunday's final round of the Coastal Athletic Association women's golf championship at The Reserve Club at St. James.

No. 50 Campbell (301-298-287—886) recorded the lowest team score of the 3-day event on Sunday, a 1-under par 287, but finished six strokes behind 43rd-ranked Charleston (297-295-288—880), which secured the CAA's automatic berth in next month's NCAA Regional championships.  UNCW (299-293-291—883) was runner-up.

Berglund (74-75-70—219) logged Campbell's best individual finish (T3) since joining the CAA prior to the 2023-24 season.  Alicia Olsson (75-76-71—222) posted a second-straight top-5 finish (T5) in the league championship, while freshman Fanni Gronlund tied for 10th (76-75-73—224).

Junior Isabella Hahne (76-75-75—226) tied for 13th place, while sophomore Jade Potter posted back-to-back 73s after entering as a second-round substitute.

Hannah Altman of UNCW was the lone golfer in the 50-player field to finish at even-par (74-73-69—216) on the Nicklaus design.  Only seven players broke par this week for a single round on the 5995-yard layout.

On Sunday, Campbell posted the sixth-lowest team round in its conference tournament history, dating to the program's first season (1990), while CU's 54-hole total stands as the eighth best.  The Camels finished 17 shots better than defending champion Delaware (903).

As a team the Camels led the field in par-3 (3.08) and par-4 (4.20) scoring, but Charleston played the par-5 holes 13-under as a team, 10 strokes better than the Cougars' closest competitor (UNCW).  CU was second in the field with 169 pars.

Berglund posted her sixth top-10 finish of the season and fourth top 5 by making 37 pars (2nd) and 7 birdies.  She was second in par-4 scoring (+3) and fifth on the par 5 holes (-2).  Olsson finished fourth in the field with 35 pars and played the par-3 layouts even.

Gronlund made 10 birdies over the weekend (T7th) and was even on the par 3 holes.  Hahne made 35 pars (T4th) and Potter played the par fives 2-under over her 36 holes of competition.

Campbell awaits an at-large berth to one of six NCAA Regionals, which will be held May 5-7.  The NCAA Division I Women's Golf selection show is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Apr. 23.
