Camels set for road series at William & Mary

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels once again are on the road for a Coastal Athletic Association showdown, as they take on the William & Mary Tribe in a pivotal conference clash.
 
Campbell (15-21, 6-6 CAA) is just one game behind William & Mary (13-23, 7-5) in the CAA standings at the halfway point. The winner of the series puts themselves in good position in the playoff race with four CAA series remaining.

Series History
W&M holds a 13-9 advantage in the overall series. Last year, the teams played in the final weekend. Campbell took the series with two wins, but the Tribe's win in the final game sent the team to the CAA Championship.
 
Know Your Opponent
William & Mary has one of the best offenses in the CAA. It's batting average (.311) and scoring (7.4) rank first in the league. They are ranked second in the conference in slugging percentage (.467) and third in on-base percentage (.394).
 
Conversely, they are last in the CAA in team ERA (9.70) and fielding percentage (.933), which also rank near the bottom of the NCAA. Out of 299 teams in Division I, William & Mary have the no. 297 fielding percentage and no. 287 ERA.
 
Ben Parker leads the squad with a .404 batting average, 61 hits, 22 extra-base hits and 45 runs scored. Christian Rush has 45 RBI, most in the conference.
 
The team uses a plethora of pitchers. Not one has averaged one IP per game. Daniel Lingle has made 20 appearances, and Carter Lovasz has three wins to pace the pack. Zach Boyd has the lowest WHIP on the team at 1.36.
 
The Tribe is led by first-year head coach Rob McCoy, who was previously the head coach at Niagara for the last 16 years. Parker and Lovasz were named to the preseason all-conference team, while the squad was picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll.
 
Top of the Charts
Jake Murray is 10th in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings (13.61) and 39th in total strikeouts (60). He leads the CAA in both categories.
 
Andrew Schuldt is third in the CAA with 42 RBI. He was ranked the No. 19 catcher in D1Baseball's Week Six Player Rankings.
 
The Campbell pitching staff averages 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings, the best mark in the CAA.
 
The team has 80 stolen bases this year, 30th in the NCAA.
 
Gr-Andy Slams
Schuldt is responsible for both of Campbell's grand slams this year, 3/25 at Charlotte and 4/6 vs. Northeastern.
 
New Faces in the Creek
Campbell has new faces up and down the roster. Headlined by the coaching staff additions of Coach Marx, Coach Stone, Coach LaRue and Coach Kramer, the Camels welcome 23 newcomers on the roster.
 
Taking One for the Team
The Camels lead the CAA and are 17th in the country in hit-by-pitches, with 78. Darnell Parker Jr. accounts for 17, first in the CAA. Jackson Thompson and Charlie Meglio are also top 10 in the CAA.
 
CAA Preseason Honors
Dalen Thompson and Andy Schuldt were named to the All-CAA Preseason Team as honorable mentions.
 
Century Club
Across the 2022 & 2023 seasons, the Camels recorded 100+ doubles, home runs, stolen bases and HBPs. They were the only team to accomplish this feat in either year. In 2024, Campbell recorded 112 home runs, 103 doubles, 98 stolen bases and 96 HBPs.
 
National Leaderboard
When Campbell's 2024 season ended, they were 8th in home runs, 12th in walks, 17th in slugging percentage, 20th in runs per game, and 23rd in OBP.
 
Replacing The Sheriff
The Camels are looking to replace the production of Lawson Harrill, who led the team in every major hitting category and set a new school record for career home runs (51).
