BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell and Coastal Carolina battled in a pitching duel Tuesday night, with the Camels claiming their first victory over the Chanticleers in five years. The final score was 1-0, with the only run being scored in the fifth inning.
The Camels improved to 27-11 (12-3 CAA) for the year, and the Chanticleers are now 29-12 (6-6 Sun Belt).
Megan Gregory (8-3) clutched the win for the Camels after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing four hits, six walks and five strikeouts. Gregory did not give up a hit until the fifth inning.
Nicolette Picone (17-5) was credited with the loss after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing two hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.
In the fifth inning, Alyssa Armijo singled to shortstop and then got out at second after Allyiah Swiney reached on a fielder's choice. Haley Krebs reached base on a throwing error, and Swiney scored for the Camels.
Delaney Keith singled in the seventh inning and Georgia Hood drew a walk. Keith and Hood were on base when Keirstin Roose hit a shot to Gregory that hit her, however Gregory made the play to Hannah Cornetto for the final out of the game.
