BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell fell to Elon 6-5 in the first game of the final weekend series.
The Camels are now 33-17 (18-7 CAA) for the year, and the Phoenix are now 28-17 (20-5 CAA).
Allyiah Swiney was responsible for all five of the Camels' runs. Swiney started it off in the first inning after she hit an RBI single that scored Alyssa Armijo, who reached base after hitting a double to left field. Swiney then hit another RBI single in the second inning, scoring Emma Slutzah who reached base on a walk.
Elon scored a pair of runs in the second inning after Reagan Hartley hit an RBI single and Lani Wyrick hit an RBI double. They scored one run in the fourth inning, with Greta Hessenthaler grounding out, but scoring Mary Moss Wirt. The Phoenix scored three runs in the fifth inning to edge them past the Camels by one run.
Swiney brought in the last three runs for Campbell in the fourth inning after hitting a home run that brought in
Madison Ford and
Hannah Cornetto.
McKenna McCard (11-3) picked up the win after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Taylor Cherry was credited with the save after pitching 3.0 innings and allowing no hits, no runs, no walks and one strikeout.
Cassiti Baroni (6-4) was credited with the loss after pitching 2.0 innings and allowing two hits, three earned runs, three walks and no strikeouts.
Hannah Leierer started out in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, one walk and one strikeout.
Katherine Serna also pitched 2.0 innings, only allowing one walk and two strikeouts.
