NEWARK, Del. – Campbell dropped the season finale to Delaware, 5-3, Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Campbell ends the regular season with a 24-29 record and 15-12 in CAA play. Delaware ends their year at 28-25 (12-15 CAA).
Mason Smith started on the mound for Campbell, and the loss moved his record to 2-6 this season. He pitched 5.0 innings with six hits, three runs (two unearned), three walks and five strikeouts.
Smith's counterpart, Ethan Shaub, pitched just one inning before giving way to Jonah Richardson. He pitched 4.0 innings and was awarded the win (3-2).
Andrew Callaway, Dylan Bryan and Justin Needles saw time out of the bullpen for Delaware, and Needles earned his first save of the season.
For Campbell,
Jett Music,
Nick Biasi and
Bryce Schares each did one inning of work out of the bullpen.
The Blue Hens went ahead with a leadoff home run by Andrew Amato in the bottom of the first inning.
Delaware then scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to build a 4-0 advantage. Ayden Frey, Aiden Stewart hit RBI singles and Tanner Donati hit a solo home run to center field.
The Camels got on the board in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI double by
Andrew Keller.
In the eighth inning,
Joey Morton and
Charlie Meglio hit back-to-back doubles to bring in one run, then
Jarrett Martin followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
UD added the final run in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single from Matthew Minckler.

The Camels start the CAA Championship on Wednesday as the No. 3 seed. They'll face off against the No. 6 seed Elon at 4:00 on FloCollege from Mount Pleasant, S.C.
