Five Camels recognized on All-CAA squads

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Coastal Athletic Association announced the members of its All-CAA baseball teams this afternoon, and five Camels were including in the honors.

Joey Morton finds himself on the All-CAA First Team, Joe Simpson and Dalen Thompson are second team members, Jake Murray is an honorable mention, and Jett Music is one of 10 selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

A redshirt junior from Oxford, Pa., Morton started all but three games this year, and he was a stalwart at first base for Campbell's defense. He was second on the team with 52 hits, 11 home runs, 10 doubles. Morton was also second in the CAA with four triples.

A native of Clinton, Iowa, Simpson joins Morton in receiving conference recognition in his first full season with the Camels. Playing primarily in left field, Simpson led the team with a .343 batting average and a 1.040 OPS, the sixth-best mark in the conference. He also led the team and was seventh in the CAA in slugging percentage (.597). Simpson also proved to be a menace on the base-patch, successfully stealing 20 bases out of 21 attempts, and he did not commit an error all season.

Thompson, a senior from Dunn, bookends his final season with preseason and postseason all-conference recognition. He recorded a hit in 20 of his final 22 games of the season, and he batted .350 in conference games. Thompson was second on the team with 42 RBI, and he had 20 stolen bases for a second consecutive season.

A graduate student from Wendell, N.C., Murray is one of three starting pitchers on the honorable mentions list. He led the CAA with 30 strikeouts looking, and his 81 total strikeouts was second in the league. His 12.64 K/9 is the 12th best mark in the NCAA. Murray's conference season was highlighted by a six inning, 12 strikeout performance against UNCW and nine strikeouts in seven innings against Elon. He was twice named the CAA's Pitcher of the Week.

Music, a true freshman from Clayton, N.C., was a true utility player for the Camels, seeing time at second base, in the outfield and on the mound as an important piece of the bullpen. He had a season-high six strikeouts in his first appearance on the mound and earned the win against ECU for the Camels' first win of the year. He also batted .283 with 11 extra-base hits and 10 RBI.

Below is the full list of the All-CAA team members, as well as the end-of-season award winners.
