Campbell tops #1 seed Delaware 3-2 in nine innings

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell won the second game of the CAA Softball Championship, topping #1 seed Delaware 3-2 in nine innings.

The Camels are now 36-18 (19-8 CAA) for the year, and the Blue Hens are now 37-15 (23-4 CAA).

It was truly a rubber match between CAA Softball Pitcher of the Year, Delaware's Billie Kerwood, and All-CAA First Team select, Campbell's Megan Gregory. Gregory picked up the win after pitching all 9.0 innings and allowing seven hits, two earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Kerwood was credited with the loss after pitching all 9.0 innings as well, and allowing six hits, one earned run, seven walks and six strikeouts.

Sydney Shaffer started it off for Delaware after she hit a one home run in the first inning. Ryleigh Thomas tied the game in the fourth inning after she hit the second home run of the day for the Blue Hens.

The Camels took their first lead of the game in the third inning when Allyiah Swiney reached base on a fielder's choice, and Tyra Parker and Haley Krebs scored on an error from the shortstop. In the ninth inning, Charlie Montgomery hit an RBI single, scoring Swiney, and that ended up being the game winning run.

The game ended in the bottom of the ninth inning after Parker made a diving catch on a foul ball.
