BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell freshman
Jasmine Nivar is set to compete with the Puerto Rico Women's National Team at the GLOBL JAM event in Canada beginning Wednesday and running through Sunday.
Â
"It is such an honor and privilege for Jasmine to be chosen to represent Puerto Rico in international competition this week," Campbell Head Coach
Ronny Fisher said. "Jassi follows up a great performance in the NC Coaches Association East-West All-Star game with an amazing opportunity as GLOBL JAM gets started in Canada."
Â
The event, held at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, will host four men's and four women's teams in a round robin tournament. The teams Nivar and Puerto Rico will face off against are the Texas Longhorns (representing the United States), Brazil and Canada.
Â
Puerto Rico takes on the Longhorns on Wednesday at 2:00, followed by a matchup against Brazil at 11:30 AM on Thursday. The round robin portion concludes on Saturday at 8:00 PM, as Puerto Rico faces off against Canada.
Â
The two top teams will face off in a Gold Medal Game at 5:00 on Sunday.
Â
"Jassi is a fierce competitor who loves the challenge of competing against the best," Fisher said. "She will certainly get that chance as this tournament field is loaded with great teams and talented athletes. I know Jassi will rise to the occasion and I can't wait to watch her compete!"
Â
Nivar will be the second Campbell freshman to compete with a national team this summer.
N'na Konate just completed her time at FIBA U20 Eurobasket with the Switzerland National Team.
