Campbell splits Saturday doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, SC – Campbell (1-2) split Saturday's doubleheader at the Gamecock Classic, downing ETSU in straight sets before falling in the same fashion to the host South Carolina in the second match.
 
ETSU Recap
The Camels picked up their first set of the win in straight sets over ETSU. Campbell hit .338 on the day while holding the Buccaneers to just .045.
 
Campbell picked up its first set win of the year by taking the first set 25-17. Maja Daca got off to a hot start with four kills on only six swings as the Camels hit .308 in the opening frame.
 
The Camels added to their advantage with a 25-19 second-set win. The Camels led nearly wire-to-wire in the frame, going up 3-2 and never surrendering the lead.
 
Campbell made no mistake in putting the match away, rolling to a 25-11 victory in the final frame. The offense posted a sharp .407 hitting percentage  while holding the Bucs to .034 on the other side of the ball to secure the W.
 
Maja Daca led all players with nine kills and did not make an error for an efficient .529 hitting mark. The freshman also added five service aces.  
 
Hannah Pattie logged the first double-double of her career in just her second match with 11 assists and a team-high 15 digs. Bella Illig just missed a double-double with 10 assists and 9 digs.
 
Aley Clent controlled the net on defense with four blocks, while Campbell posted six blocks as a team.
 
South Carolina Recap
Campbell hung tough and had opportunities to take a set, but ultimately fell in three sets to South Carolina in the third game of the Gamecock Classic.
 
Campbell narrowly dropped the first set 25-22. The Camels were more efficient throughout the set, hitting .286 to the Gamecocks' .162, but seven service errors plagued the Camels throughout and halted numerous runs.
 
The second set was close as well, despite the Gamecocks hitting at a .462 mark. The Camels stayed in the fight, trailing by as few as two at 20-18, but again were hindered by service errors with five in the second set. Maja Daca had a big set with five kills in the frame.
 
South Carolina pulled away in the third set at 25-16 to secure the match victory.  The Camels trailed by as many as 12 in the final frame, but still pieced together a 5-0 run late in the set behind Sadie Johston's serve to cut into the lead.
 
Daca led the way on offense again with nine kills, while Wolkow added eight. Hannah Pattie posted a season-high 19 assists, while Bella Illig came up with 15 digs to lead the Camels.  
 
Looking Ahead
Campbell is at home for the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational. The Camels face Gardner-Webb on Friday, before a Saturday doubleheader against Norfolk State and UNCG.
