BUIES CREEK – The Campbell women's soccer team dropped its first match of the season, 5-1, against 24
th-ranked Virginia Tech on Sunday night at Eakes Athletics Complex. The match marked the first time in program history the Camels have hosted a nationally-ranked opponent.
Gillian Garrison netted her second goal of the season to put Campbell out in front, 1-0, in just the 10
th minute of the contest as
Samantha Witte collected the assist. Witte fed Garrison just outside the goal best as she tapped the ball into the back of the net for the lead.
Virginia Tech went on to score five unanswered goals to run away with the victory. The Hokies scored the equalizer in the 22
nd minute of the match off the boot of Eliana Salama then pulled away in the second half with goals from
Hannah Pachan (55'),
Taylor Price (63'), and
Anna Weir (72').
Campbell was outshot for the first time this season 21-6 and did not force a corner kick on the night to the Hokies four.
The Camels registered eight fouls, and the Hokies were called for six with a yellow card.
Susan Guzman and Garrison led the Camels with two shots with two on goal for Garrison.

Campbell returns to action hosting Coastal Carolina on Thursday, September 4 at Eakes Athletics Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on FloCollege. The squad will be recognizing five seniors during the night.
