Big plays in second half lead Campbell to 1-1 draw against VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – Marco Wright's 80th minute equalizer and Max Leviton's penalty kick save in the 82nd minute carried Campbell to a 1-1 draw against VCU Tuesday night at Sports Backers Stadium.

The result is both Campbell's (2-1-1) and VCU's (1-2-1) first draw of the young season.

Wright's header came on the end of a free kick from just outside the box from Xander Martin. The ball was on the right side, and Martin looped an out-swinging ball towards the top of the six-yard box with his right foot. Wright rose up and sent the unmarked header past the keeper into the net.

Less than two minutes later, VCU was awarded a penalty after Hayato Miyano was fouled in the box. Andrey Salmeron stepped up to take the penalty shot, and he sent it towards the lower left corner.

Leviton dove to his right and successfully parried the attempt. Moussa Ndiaye was first to the rebound, but his attempt on goal went wide and out for a Campbell goal kick.

The scoring began with Kai Feng's opener in the 58th minute off assists from Lucas White and Ty Johnson.

Leviton ended his night with four saves between the pipes, including a one-on-one save and a goal line clearance in the first half. VCU outshot the Camels, 16-8, and the Rams also held the advantage on corner kicks, 3-2.

Each team picked up two yellow cards and committed 15 fouls.
