RICHMOND, Va. – Marco Wright's 80
th minute equalizer and
Max Leviton's penalty kick save in the 82
nd minute carried Campbell to a 1-1 draw against VCU Tuesday night at Sports Backers Stadium.
Â
The result is both Campbell's (2-1-1) and VCU's (1-2-1) first draw of the young season.
Â
Wright's header came on the end of a free kick from just outside the box from
Xander Martin. The ball was on the right side, and Martin looped an out-swinging ball towards the top of the six-yard box with his right foot. Wright rose up and sent the unmarked header past the keeper into the net.
Â
Less than two minutes later, VCU was awarded a penalty after Hayato Miyano was fouled in the box. Andrey Salmeron stepped up to take the penalty shot, and he sent it towards the lower left corner.
Â
Leviton dove to his right and successfully parried the attempt. Moussa Ndiaye was first to the rebound, but his attempt on goal went wide and out for a Campbell goal kick.
Â
The scoring began with Kai Feng's opener in the 58
th minute off assists from Lucas White and Ty Johnson.
Â
Leviton ended his night with four saves between the pipes, including a one-on-one save and a goal line clearance in the first half. VCU outshot the Camels, 16-8, and the Rams also held the advantage on corner kicks, 3-2.
Â
Each team picked up two yellow cards and committed 15 fouls.
