Football heads to ECU

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After opening the season at the CAA favorites, Campbell takes on its first FBS opponent of the season at East Carolina on Saturday, September 6. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C.

QUICK HITS
  • Campbell is one of 31 FCS programs that will match up against at least two FBS opponents this season, and one of three CAA schools on the list. The Camels also head to NC State on October 4. Only UT Martin will play three FBS opponents this season.
  • Saturday will mark the second ever matchup between the Camels and Pirates (CU modern era only). ECU previously topped Campbell 49-10 in 2022.
  • Campbell is 0-12 all-time (since 2013) against FBS opponents.
  • Campbell begins the 18th season of its modern era of football (since 2008) in 2025.

  • Of Campbell's 44 total returners, the team welcomes back 11 total offensive or defensive starters, including six on offense and five on defense.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 9 Rhode Island mounted a second half comeback, scoring 17-straight to close out visiting Campbell 31-20 in the CAA and 2025 season opener for both teams at Meade Stadium.

The Rams (1-0, 1-0 CAA) trailed 17-14 at the break before outscoring Campbell (0-1, 0-1 CAA) 17-3 in the second half. The Camels led 20-17 entering the fourth quarter before URI touchdowns on back-to-back drives to seal the win.

Marquis Buchanan finished with a game-high 167 yards receiving on six catches with a TD for URI, while Devin Farrell completed 15-of-28 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

Kamden Sixkiller completed 17-of-33 passes for 144 yards, a touchdown and 21 yards rushing in his Campbell debut, while Randall King and Spencer Jones combined for 107 yards on nine catches. Mike Chandler II, meanwhile, rushed for 29 yards and a score, while Logan Livermon tallied a game-high nine tackles.

THE MATCHUP: EAST CAROLINA
The Pirates are also searching for their first win of the season following a 24-17 setback at NC State to open 2025. The Wolfpack led 17-0 before ECU clawed back within 24-17 with 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. ECU's final drive stalled at the NCSU 10-yard line with 37 seconds remaining.

Katin Houser threw for 366 yards on 30-of-44 passing with a touchdown against the Wolfpack, while Jayvontay Conner collected two catches for 98 yards and a score, and Brock Spalding snagged six catches for 97 yards. Dameon Wilson led the Pirate defense with eight tackles, including 2.5 stops for loss.

NEXT UP
Campbell will host Furman in its 2025 home opener on September 13 (3:30 p.m.) in the first of three-straight home dates. The Camels will follow the Furman game with matchups against new CAA foe Bryant on September 20 (6:00 p.m.) and Western Carolina on September 27 (3:30 p.m.).
