Campbell posts top two scores of season

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Benjamin Killingstad is second on the individual leader board and Campbell stands second in the team standings following Monday's first two rounds of the Elon Phoenix Invitational at Alamance Country Club.

Killingstad is 11-under (67-64—131) through 36 holes after matching his collegiate low Monday afternoon, while Erik Johansson is tied for fifth at 8-under (66-68—134) on the par-71 Donald Ross design.  Logan Graf (70-73—143) and Guillermo Ochoa (76-67—143) stand T55 at one-over, while Joachim Larsen Tegner (72-72—144) is T65 at plus-two.  Competing as an individual, William Sundborn is T45 at even par (72-70—142).

Host Elon (270-271—541) leads the 17-team field at 27-under, five shots ahead of Campbell (275-271—546) heading into Tuesday's final round.  Appalachian State (-17), Western Carolina (-16) and George Washington (-15) round out the top five in the 17-team field.

Campbell will be paired with Elon, Appalachian State and Western Carolina for Tuesday's 9:00 a.m. shotgun and start from the first through third tees.  Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.

Killingstad's 36-hole total is tied for second-lowest in Campbell history and only two shots shy of the school record set by current PGA TOUR member Jesper Svensson (65-64—129, -13) at the 2018 OBX Intercollegiate.  A junior from Blommenholm, Norway, Killingstad shot his best round of the season Monday morning before matching his career low in the afternoon.

On the day, Killingstad made 11 birdies, plus an eagle, and only two bogeys.  He played the par-4 holes at 5-under (T2 in the field and the par fives at minus-six (T3).

Johansson posted his best 18- and 36-hole scores of the season on a day when he made 13 birdies over two rounds.  A senior from Hollviken, Sweden, Johansson was 5-under on the par-five holes and minus-3 on the par fours.

Following an opening-round 76, sophomore Guillermo Ochoa flipped the number in the afternoon and shot a collegiate low 67.  His second 18 included four birdies and an eagle, while the only blemish on his scorecard was a double-bogey on the par-3 16th.

As a team, the Camels notched their best two 18-hole scores of the year and tied for the third-lowest 36-hole mark in program history (275-271—546).  The 36-hole tally was the team's best in nearly eight years since Campbell also finished the first two rounds of the 2018 OBX Intercollegiate at 546 (277-269) on Oct. 21-22, 2018.

CU's second-round 271 is T7 in program history and just 4 shots off the school-record 267 posted on the 2015 OBX Intercollegiate, also on a par-71 layout.

Wake Forest's Tom Haberer, who is competing as an individual, is 3-strokes ahead of Killingstad at 14-under (66-62—128) through two rounds.  Forty-four players in the 108-golfer field concluded action Monday in red numbers.
