BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After collecting his first collegiate victory,
Benjamin Killingstad of Campbell University has been named Coastal Athletic Association co-men's golfer of the week. He shared the award with Charleston's Jules Lauer, who won The Bryson Invitational.
Killingstad (70-71-61—202, -11) tied the school 18-hole record in the final round of the Furman Intercollegiate to earn his first collegiate title and lead Campbell (281-284-273—838, -14) to a second-consecutive team championship.
Last week, Killingstad was the individual runner-up when the Camels won the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Over the last two events, Campbell is a combined 46 under par as a team and Killingstad 27-under in the same span.
On Monday, Killingstad made 11 birdies and one bogey to tie the school 18-hole record set by Ray Kraivixien on Apr. 14, 2018, at MacGregor Downs Country Club (par 72). After making his only bogey of the day on the par-3 eighth hole, Killingstad birdied the next four holes, then three of his last four to close the event at 11-under on the par 71 Furman layout.
One week after shooting his previous collegiate low (64) at the Elon tournament, Killingstad again went low, this time etching his name at the top of the school record books.
Campbell (281-284-273—838, -14) claimed the team trophy by 15 shots over runner-up Lipscomb. The Camels posted the eighth-best 54-hole score in the program's Division I era.
Killingstad topped the 88-player Furman field with 17 birdies, while also leading all players in par-4 (-10) scoring and tying for third on the par-5 holes (-6).
After tying the school 54-hole record last week at the Elon Phoenix Invitational when he finished at 16-under 197 (67-64-66), Killingstad's 3-round total (202) at Furman is tied for ninth-lowest in Campbell men's golf history.
He closed the fall season with a team-leading 70.3 stroke average over 12 rounds, nine in which he played par, or better, golf. He notched five rounds in the 60s and made 53 birdies.
A junior from Blommenholm, Norway, Killingstad lowered his
Killingstad's honor marked the third-straight CAA weekly award for a Campbell golfer.
Logan Graf earned the recognition on Oct. 7 and Killingstad was selected on Oct. 14.
