Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Camels blank Charleston 2-0

BUIES CREEK — Campbell women's soccer picked up its seventh shutout of the season blanking Charleston 2-0 on Sunday at Eakes Athletics Complex.

Campbell improves to 6-7-4 and 3-3-2 in conference play while Charleston falls out of the tournament race at 5-9-3 and 2-5-1 in league action.

The Camels scored first for the seventh time this season as Zahra Fepessi converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute of the match. A Charleston handball was called in the box to set up the Camels fourth penalty kick of the season.

Campbell tacked on another goal in the 31st minute of the match when Abby Connolly found redemption from a missed penalty kick earlier in the match. Ella Wineka found space before heading it to Connolly who found the bottom right of the net.

The Camels headed into the half up a pair of goals with eight shots to the Courgars' five. Both squads each took a corner in the first half.

Campbell held on defensively in the second half not allowing a goal in the Cougar's nine shots. Anais van Doesburg was stout in the net and only needed two saves on the day. The Cougars outshot the Camels 14-13 in the match.

Connolly leads the Camels with five goals on the season and led the match with six shots with four on frame.

Head Coach Jeff Gross Quotable
"Excellent team win. It had a practiced mentality to compete and put together enough of the elements needed to win in this league. When endeavoring to build a program it takes time, patience and diligence. All of which we are working hard on everyday. The best is yet to come for the women of this program. Roll Humps!"
