No. 16 Camels defeat Stony Brook 48-35 in comeback

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – No. 16 Campbell overcame a two touchdown second half deficit, coming from behind to top visiting Stony Brook 48-35 on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell (8-2, 5-1 CAA) and Stony Brook (5-5, 3-3 CAA) combined for 1,077 yards of total offense, while the Camels matched a season-high for points in the win. The Camels remained unbeaten at home this season (4-0) while extending their single-season record for wins (previous: 6, four times).

The game marked the 100th home game for the Camels at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Seawolves scored touchdowns on their first three drives and on five of their first six possessions, amassing 428 yards over that span.

The Camels trailed 35-21 with 12:34 on the clock in the third quarter following Seth Sweitzer's 28-yard touchdown catch from Quinn Boyd.

Jon Gullette provided an answer for Campbell on the ensuing kickoff, however, returning the kick 95 yards for a touchdown. The TD marked Campbell's first kick return for a TD since 2024 (Randall King, 90 yards, 11/9/24 vs. Richmond), and tied for the second-longest kick return for a score in CU's history (matches Aaron Blockmon, 95 yards, 10/24/15 vs. Morehead State).

The return was the start of 27 unanswered points for the Camels.

Campbell knotted the game on Ethan Lawrence's two-yard punch-in, capping a 10-play, 64-yard drive. After turning the Seawolves over on downs, the Camels used 11 plays (4:45) to march back downfield, taking the lead on Kamden Sixkiller's seven-yard strike to Christan Campbell with 11:25 to play.

Campbell's defense maintained the lead with Kaleb Simpkins's interception and another turnover on downs on consecutive possessions, with Lawrence tacking on his second TD.

Sixkiller finished the day with 396 yards passing and four touchdowns, completing 33-of-46 throws. The output marked the Norman, Okla. native's sixth 300-yard passing game of the season, connecting with 10 different receivers.

Christan Campbell led the way with a season-high 117 yards on seven catches, including the go-ahead score, while Jyron Waiters notched three catches for 98 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown in the second frame.

Chinua Ezeigbo also caught nine passes for 82 yards, while JJ Cowan and Gullette hauled in TD passes. Cowan added 67 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Lawrence posted 68 yards on the ground on 15 carries, including his two scores.

AJ Benton topped Campbell's defensively with 11 tackles, with Ravel Cato adding eight tackles and a pass breakup. O'Marion Lewis and Charles Battaglia added seven tackles each, with Logan Wright and DaVonyae Pettis combining on a sack.

Boyd paced SBU with 348 yards and four touchdowns on 31-of-43 passing with an interception, also running for 43 yards. Sweitzer, meanwhile, caught three TD passes, with nine total catches for 149 yards. Jameer Reeder also rushed for 100 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown.

Geno Calgaro posted a game-high 18 tackles, while Anthony Ferrelli and JoJo Garcia collected 13 stops apiece for the Seawolves.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Campbell is 8-2 overall and 5-1 in CAA play, with just a single FCS loss, coming on the road at then-No. 25 UAlbany.

Campbell will head to Elon next week (November 14) for its final road test of the regular season before a showdown with league-leading Monmouth (12:00 p.m.) on November 21 that could decide the CAA Championship.
